For over 50 years, people across America have been turning to Charley’s Greenhouse & Garden Supply for their greenhouse gardening needs. It all started back in 1973 when Charley Yaw, fresh out of Oregon State, had a big dream but not much cash. He began designing portable buildings near Pine Lake, Washington, and the adventure of a lifetime began.

The Beginning

One day, Charley got a request to build a backyard greenhouse. The customer was thrilled with the result, and soon, word spread. Before long, Charley’s business started to grow, all thanks to happy customers sharing their experiences. But there was a problem—back then, it wasn’t easy for backyard gardeners to find greenhouse equipment and supplies. Commercial suppliers just weren’t interested in selling small amounts of pots, propagation mats, lights, and other gardening essentials. Charley and his wife, Carol, saw the gap and jumped at the chance to help. In 1975, they put together their first 16-page, black-and-white catalog filled with supplies for greenhouse gardeners. They only had enough money to print 400 copies, but they made it happen!

As time went on, their mailing list grew to over a million households! As more people wanted greenhouses, Charley and Carol expanded the catalog to include greenhouses from England, Canada, Germany, China, and Denmark. Before long, they became the top supplier in the USA for hobby greenhouse equipment and gardening supplies!
